The development of an EPD DAPcons® environmental product declaration  is based on the application of requirements and guidelines that mark how the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the product in question must be carried out. These guidelines are called Product Category Rules (PCRs).

The product category rules vary depending on the product to be developed, and can be:

  • National, European or international technical standards.
  • Developed by the DAPconstrucción® Programme Operator.
  • Developed by another internationally recognised Programme Operator.

The DAPconstrucción programme has developed several PCRs of its own, but with the development of national, European and international technical standards it has not renewed them, since in these standards there is a broader sectoral panel of greater international recognition than the one that can be developed in the operator programme itself. To develop a PCR, a sectoral panel must be formed that wants to develop it.

The CPRs developed by the DAPconstrucción Program currently in force are:

  • PCR of construction products in general. Valid for any type of construction product, in accordance with the national and international standards that govern them, or according to documents provided; EADs (European Assesment Document), ETAs (European Technical Assesments) or any other accepted in current legislation. In the event that you want to use this PCR, you must expressly request it from the program administrator.

How to develop a sectoral panel.

Sectoral panels are a mechanism for stakeholder consultation and participation in the process of developing Product Category Rules (PCRs). In the DAPconstrucción programme, sectoral panels have been created to develop PCR for thermal insulation, ceramics, stone and aggregates, although they have not been renewed due to the existence of international standards with greater international consensus.

The panels must be made up of representatives of companies, business associations or other entities or experts within certain product categories and are convened based on the interest of companies supplying construction products to obtain an EPD DAPcons®.
